The members of the Central Falconry and Raptor Club would like to welcome you to our website and hope that you find it interesting and informative. The website is currently changing and new information is being added, so please visit us again soon.
The Central Falconry and Raptor club was established in 1988 with the mission statement to offer people the opportunity to embrace all aspects of Falconry in a spirit of good companionship. This is something that the founding members and the current members feel strongly about and we offer a warm welcome to people of all ages, whether experienced Falconers, novices or families.
On this page, we have attempted to explain who we are and what we do. Falconry is a fascinating pastime which allows us to work up close with some of the most incredible predators on the earth. From the smallest falcon to the largest eagle; from the smallest owl to the largest hawk, each species has it’s own hunting methods and each species requires a different way of training and handling. Through our club we aim to help new falconers and provide support (sometimes an extra pair of hands) to established falconers.
At the Central Falconry and Raptor Club, we pride ourselves in our ability to offer a warm welcome to anyone interested in Falconry, Raptor Keeping, or Birds of Prey, we have a wealth of experience within our membership and help and advice is freely given. We welcome those who may just be considering starting Falconry and want to know more before taking the plunge, a club is a great way to find your feet and learn some of the basic skills you will need. Our membership also includes professional falconers, so we have a whole range of experience!
Our meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month, and around the middle of the year we hold a club barbeque at the Cotswold Falconry Centre, hosted by our Club President and his Wife, we are treated to good food, good company and some excellent displays of Falconry.
During the winter months, many of our members take part in hunting with their birds. Falconry in the true sense is the “Art and Practice of flying a trained Bird of Prey at wild quarry in it’s natural environment” – as a club we support this by organising field events throughout the winter.
The Central Falconry and Raptor Club are happy to promote their sport and introduce our birds to the public giving everyone an insight into Falconry and a chance to meet these amazing predators close up.
The club are affiliated to the Hawk Board an organisation aimed at protecting Falconry for the benefit of everyone.
The club are very active at a number of events and are regular attendees at the British Falconry Fair where we organise and provide staff for the weathering; The CLA Game Fair and many other shows throughout the summer.
In 2009 we attended the Festival of Falconry, providing staff for the public weatherings as well as presenting the club stand within the UK Falconry Village.
